I have been thinking of things that inspire me… I happened upon an old flash drive with pictures I had taken from a road trip to Alberta that we went on when my son was a little boy.
We had an old TomTom at the time and we had set it to choose back roads, rather than highways. I would hollar at my husband to pull over at all the amazing old, abandoned farms we passed, at the derelict gas stations and grain elevators. I loved both the expansive, empty landscapes and the pieces that remained of what had been rural lifestyles.
I have been dreaming of doing a road trip again. But this time, I want to travel all the way across Canada! I want to find the small, out-of-the-way places that remain in rural communities. They trip will happen, but I can start painting now. And so I have!
Alberta…
“ Closed for Diesel” also Alberta!
“ Forgotten Freedoms “… an image of rural childhood memories. I remember riding wherever, hanging out and dropping our bikes on the side of the road while we went on our adventures!
“ Barely Afloat” is a record of the old fish boats that dot the BC coastline.
